5 arrested in alleged gang rape, friend of victim speaks out

Police investigating the gang rape of a 15-year-old student outside of a school dance on Oct. 23 have arrested five people, CNN reports.

Three juveniles and two adults—Salvador Rodriguez, 21, and Manuel Ortega, 19— were taken into custody. Richmond, CA police spokesman, Lt. Mark Gagan, says the arrested teens will be charged as adults. They are all possibly facing life in prison if convicted.

Teen gang raped, while others did nothing

As many as 10 people were involved in the assault in a dimly lighted back alley at the school, police have said, while another 10 people watched without calling 911 to report it. Police have posted a $20,000 reward for anyone who reports information that helps arrest and convict those involved in the attack.

The victim was released from the hospital yesterday after being admitted in critical condition. One of her friends spoke out against the brutal attack, blaming school officials and a lack of security for not preventing the rape.
