Revealed: Castro’s sister worked for the CIA

In her new memoir, the younger sister of Fidel and Raul Castro admits to working undercover for the CIA in Cuba in the early 1960s using the codename “Donna,” Reuters reports.

Juanita Castro, who now lives in exile in Miami, says she helped opponents of her brothers’ communist rule to escape execution and imprisonment.

Publishers say Juanita, 76, kept her secret closely guarded for four decades. She describes in the book how she was recruited by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency in Havana two years after the 1959 Revolution led by her brothers, which she initially supported.

She publicly broke with the Cuban government in 1964 and has remained a strong critic of communist rule in Cuba. The Cuban government has not yet responded to these revelations.
