While half of our Oscar fantasy came true thanks to Penelope Cruz's big win, we're still bummed that Javier Bardem was not there to witness his girlfriend's historic moment.

Sources tell E! News that the Spanish actor was stuck in Barcelona, shooting scenes with director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu for their upcoming film, Biutiful. If you'll remember, this was the film that initially sparked breakup rumors for the couple, since Bardem had allegedly broken his promise to take a hiatus from moviemaking so that he and Cruz could enjoy their relationship. That was already disappointing to hear at the time, but we're even more shocked now that Bardem couldn't even take a break from filming to join Cruz for her special night!
Meanwhile, at least one of Cruz's Spanish confidantes is showing love. Director Pedro Almodóvar, who says he "wept for joy" when his muse won the Oscar, has released this statement of congratulations:
"Penelope's Oscar is a triumph of talent, ambition, tenacity and extraordinary comedic gifts. And of the bravery of an actress who dives headfirst and without parachutes into very risky roles, sometimes without accounting for enough dramatic support, as in the case of [Woody] Allen's film, which she filled with grace, heart and charisma. I wept for joy when I heard her name after the classic line, "And the Oscar goes to."
Um...well said? And is it us, or did Almodóvar just take a swipe at Vicky Cristina Barcelona? Yikes! At least it's more congratulations than Bardem has given thus far.
