.WASHINGTON (AP) ? Most of America doesnt relate to Mitt Romneys religion, but that may not matter in his race against President Barack Obama.
Those are the findings of a new Pew Research Center poll released a month before Romney is set to become the first Mormon presidential nominee of a major political party.
The survey found widespread misgivings about the Mormon religion.
Nearly two-thirds of non-Mormons see Romneys faith as very different from their own. Just half consider it a Christian faith.
Despite that level of discomfort, the poll shows Romney is still locked in a very close race with Obama. The survey also found that those who know Romney is a devout Mormon say they are comfortable with his religious beliefs.
